TASA's™ fluid handling capacity (FHC) supports extended wear time and reduces the risk of skin maceration.

Wound dressings made with TASA™ resemble semi-permeable film dressings: they are thin (0.12 mm), transparent, breathable, and capable of absorbing and retaining wound exudate. TASA™ may represent an alternative for thicker hydrocolloids in wound care applications, offering a more sustainable solution.

Moisture management

Properties of Thin Absorbent Skin Adhesive (TASA™)

TASA™ has the static absorption of a hydrocolloid, while it offers the adhesive strength and Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate (MVTR) of an acrylic adhesive.

TASA™ dressings combine two different moisture management mechanisms in one material: whereas most semi-permeable film dressings rely entirely on moisture vapor transmission, and most hydrocolloids rely entirely on moisture retention, TASA™ handles moisture in both ways. The way that TASA™ combines hydrophilic and hydrophobic material results in a material that remains integrated even after absorbing fluid, does not have an odor, and allows for visualization of the underlying wound throughout the entire wear time.

Absorbent and Breathable

TASA™ is highly breathable, but also maintains a remarkable absorptive capacity for a material so thin. Despite its ultra-low profile, the dressing’s fluid handling capacity (FHC) is on par with many other hydrocolloids.

Ultra-Thin

With just 0.12 mm thin, Thin Absorbent Skin Adhesive offers superior conformability, exceptional transparency, and little opportunity for the dressing’s edge to roll or lift off skin. Another benefit is that less material is needed to produce TASA™ dressings, making it a sustainable choice.

Transparent

Our TASA™ solutions on film are transparent and do not change color after absorption. The ability to see clearly through a TASA™ dressing allows caretakers to observe the wound, without taking the dressing off. As a result, patients need fewer dressing changes which not only increases their comfort and enhances their healing process; it also leads to significant cost savings.

Secure and Clean

Thin Absorbent Skin Adhesive securely adheres to the skin: its performance is comparable to other hydrocolloid dressings. TASA™ also removes cleanly from the skin, leaving behind minimal to no adhesive residue.

Benefits of using TASA™ in medical applications

The combination of the above-mentioned features enables our Thin Absorbent Skin Adhesive to create an optimal wound healing environment for patients, while also providing an efficient solution for caregivers, clinics, and hospitals.

Advanced wound care, including complex areas

TASA™ is useful for a wide range of applications such as advanced wound dressings for pressure sores, leg ulcers, superficial wounds, skin tears, burns, and postoperative wounds. Its ultra-thin profile, superior conformability, and secure skin adhesive make it an ideal choice for dressing difficult areas. It can wrap around contoured anatomy and accommodate the body’s natural motion.

Wearables

TASA™ is suitable for multi-day wear times even in case of complications such as incontinence, friction, and shear forces.

Consumer wound care

TASA™ also represents a highly efficient solution for the prevention and treatment of blisters. In addition, a matte variant of our TASA™ is widely used as suitable material for the manufacturing of acne or spot patches.

Current and future developments related to TASA™

Avery Dennison Medical currently manufactures TASA™ in 3 different roll stock variants: on transparent film, on matte film and combined with a nonwoven carrier.

Our R&D department continues to conduct research to explore new medical applications for this novel material, such as studies for the use of TASA™ in medium- to long-term wearable devices, or clinical studies that have identified the benefit of TASA™ dressings for patients with dementia.

We are convinced that this exceptional adhesive material has much to offer to the medical field, with many opportunities yet to be discovered.
