Processing

Our converting services for medical products and devices

Avery Dennison Medical’s converting capabilities include rotary die-cutting and slitting, island placement, lamination and pouching. In terms of flexibility in packaging, we have a range of solutions for tubes, bottles, pouches, and sachets.

Rotary die-cutting

Die-cutting is an essential part of medical device manufacturing and converting to create custom-shaped flexible medical-grade materials. Avery Dennison Medical uses advanced specialized machines and tools to convert raw material into finished custom shapes and designs.

Slitting

When rolls of tape are larger than the desired size, our slitting machines can cut them down to smaller sizes. This can be completed pre-operation, or with a finished roll.

Island placement

We have the capability in-house to place a material in a precise location of an adhesive, a process required for some product designs, e.g. foam island placement.

Radio Frequency (RF) and high frequency welding

With RF welding, or high frequency welding, our machines can fuse materials together by applying radio frequency energy to the areas to be joined. This type of welding is very cost-efficient and delivers a high level of consistency, helping to ensure that medical products and packaging are safe, efficient, and reliable.

Heat lamination

Lamination is the technique of manufacturing a material in multiple layers and is utilized primarily when combining a foam to another material. The heat melts the surface of the foam, turning it into a tacky substance that essentially acts as an adhesive.

Material perforation

Silicone rolled goods can require perforation to allow the passage of moisture and exudate from the skin or wound into the device. Our mechanical perforation system can create regular 3-10 mm perforations, in a uniform coverage or with a specific brand or pattern. Ultrasonic perforation is used when smaller than 3 mm holes are needed in a material. Our silicone rolls can be produced with 1.6 mm ultrasonic perforations.

Sachet production and tube filling

We have a wide range of solutions available for sachets, tubes, and bottles, which we can customize according to specific user requirements. Avery Dennison Medical has an in-house tube and sachet filling capability for advanced skin care liquids, such as hydrogel, peristomal paste, skin cleanser, skin barrier films and creams, and skin moisturizer products.

Beyond medical converting

As a medical converting specialist, Avery Dennison Medical is compliant with ISO and GMP standards, including two Class 100,000 certified clean rooms, ensuring that customer requirements regarding quality, safety and reliability are met. If a dedicated machine is needed for a new medical product or project, we may house it in one of our certified clean rooms and in some cases even develop a new machine.

In addition to our medical device converting services, we offer sterilization options and can perform sterilization validations that will support the finished good’s journey to market.

Depending on the specific needs, Avery Dennison Medical may offer testing services for residuals, take care of biological testing, prototyping, or carry out wear studies.

We also offer our customers tailored regulatory support for MDD, MDR, FDA and other (inter)nationally required compliance.
